ACA Files Comments on BCFP’s Complaint Reporting

aca internationalACA International submitted comments to the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection outlining members’ views on Public Reporting Practices of Consumer Complaint Information, in particular the accuracy of complaints, verification processes and public availability of the bureau’s consumer complaint database June 4.

“Our comments outline the serious concerns ACA has with the bureau’s mischaracterization of complaints against the accounts receivable management industry, particularly the bureau’s failure to contextualize the number of complaints as compared to the number of contacts the debt collection industry makes to consumers over a given year,” said Leah Dempsey, ACA International’s vice president and senior counsel of federal advocacy.
